Uber is bumping up some drivers commission to 30%, its highest level ever, the company told FORBES Monday. In a new pilot program in San Francisco, a small percentage of new UberX drivers will pay a 30% commission on their first 20 rides in a week, 25% on their next 20 rides, and then 20% on any rides beyond that.

Nearly two-thirds of Uber drivers use the ride-hailing service to collect additional income to supplement full- and part-time jobs. But in three large metropolitan cities, drivers make far less than the national average, about $20 per hour, after expenses. In Detroit, drivers make on average $8.77 per hour.

Customers pay for the delivery through the Uber app, so EATS drivers don't have to handle any cash or payment. Drivers are paid for each delivery based on a pickup fee, a drop-off fee, and a mileage fee.
